Holiday Trolley Service
December 15, 2017
Glendale City Council has recently approved a Free Downtown Holiday Trolley, which kicked off November 18th and will continue to run until January 15th. There's no better way to take advantage of all that Downtown has to offer this holiday season. Whether you live in the city itself or over in the apartments in Riverside, this is a winter spectacular that you won't want to miss.
A Holly Jolly Trolley
The trolley will travel along Brand Boulevard, making several stops along the way before wrapping around the statue at Central and Broadway. The route heads all the way up to the Brand and Mountain intersection and as far down as Brand and Colorado. Operating separately from the city's current transit system, this trolley is here to help shoppers make their way across the north and south parts of town.
Brand Boulevard is well known as a hot spot during the month of December with its elaborate, festive decoration and easy access to several outlets at the Americana and Galleria, not to mention exquisite dining locations. This much welcomed addition to such a busy time of year will benefit businesses, citizens, and visitors alike.
The trolley will run from 9 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
*Hot Spots to Hit
If you're unfamiliar with the Glendale area, or simply looking for something new to try, then there are dozens of premier locations scattered around this busy boulevard such as the Museum of Neon Art and Pacific Theatres.
Top shopping locations include the Glendale Galleria, DSW Designer Show Warehouse, Nordstrom and Lululemon, just to name a few. Stop in for a bite of sushi at Katsuya, pair a decadent wine with premium cut of steak at Bourbon Steak, or escape the cold with masterfully crafted cocktail at Eden on Brand.
After a day of shopping, let loose at the Stars on Brand or La Diosa night clubs. If your idea of relaxing involves something a little more laid back, then try the Pierre Garden Restaurant's chic bar. On the flip side of the coin, Foxy's Restaurant is the perfect place to start your day with top-quality brunch.
Looking to the Future
While the trolley service is limited to the holiday system, council officials are considering this a test run for future plans to include better transportation between the north and south ends of Glendale. It's been 20 whole years since this kind of service was available in Glendale, aside from the short lived transportation offered during the opening of Americana and Grand back in 2010.
This free trolley will show officials just how many individuals would choose to use the transportation service, if one were to exist along the Brand Boulevard. As long as numbers can match the Beeline's 10 riders per-hour figure, Glendale might just see a new trolley system implemented year round. This would be a major benefit to those who live in the north end and work in the south end, who are forced to take multiple buses to and from their homes on a daily basis.
